Design FAQs

  • Where do we start?

We would begin with a discovery call. This is a 15-20 minute phone conversation to discuss the project and determine if we will move forward with an Initial Consultation. If the answer is ‘yes’, we will get a date on the calendar!

  • How do we find what my style is?

Some homeowners are very clear as to their style preferences, and others may feel like they like a ‘little bit of this and a little bit of that’…which is totally normal! When we begin working together, one of your initial tasks will be collecting inspiration images. This is easily done on Pinterest, a shared Google file or Dropbox of photos or old fashioned magazine photos and printed images. The old saying, “a picture is worth a thousand words”, is the best way to convey what speaks to you!

  • How would you describe your interior design style?

I love welcoming, personal interiors that actually function for you and your family. I love to use textures and pieces with character mixed with the unexpected. I’m not sure what I would ‘title' my design style, but I know what I like when I see it and it all somehow seems to work beautifully together! Styles can be very singular (think: traditional, chinoiserie, MCM) or they can contain an element of several styles curated together to create an interesting, beautiful space that speaks to those who live in the home.

  • What does the process look like?

At The Iron Gate Co., we follow a very specific, linear process from start to finish with each project. This ensures that each project is completed accurately and thoroughly throughout the duration of the project. We outline this process in detail during the Initial Consultation.

  • What's the difference between design and renovation?

A design project works within the footprint of an existing space. A renovation project will alter the footprint of a space to achieve the desired outcome for the space.

  • What's the usual timeline for a project?

Each project is different, and a project timeline is discussed during the Initial Consultation. Since there are so many factors which influence the timeline, each project is unique!

  • Do you work with one specific contractor or can you work with one of my choosing?

When you develop trusted relationships in this industry, they are worth their weight in gold. We work with Croxton Construction Inc., who offers turnkey contracting services. They have been in business for 35+ years and use trades and artisans with whom they have worked from anywhere from 8-35 years. Croxton Construction Inc. has satisfied our clients 100% of the time and we have a solid history of projects together…they are our A Team! We are, however, happy to work with YOUR preferred contractor!

  • Is there a typical price range for certain rooms?

Please see our Design Services page for more specific pricing, as every project is unique in its scope and complexity.

Real Estate FAQs

  • Where do we start?

The best place to start is with an in-person conversation (if possible…) with a trusted Realtor to discuss your needs and wishes for purchasing or selling a home. During this conversation, your Realtor can explain the process and help you develop a timeline for accomplishing your goals.

  • How do I know what my budget is?

Speak with a reputable lender. Your realtor can give you recommendations for lenders they have used who would be the best fit for your specific situation.

  • What does the process look like?

After the initial conversation with your agent, the next step for a home buyer would be to contact a lender to discern your budget. Most agents will recommend completing the pre-approval process prior to viewing any properties - you want to know exactly how much house you can afford! Then your Realtor will enter your criteria into the Multiple Listing Service to generate properties that match the specifications you have set forth. Your agent will share property listings with you and you can decide which ones you would like to see, and your realtor can then schedule a showing appointment for you to view the property.
